Answers to Our Top Questions
-
What are alerts?
Alerts notify you when you need to take action on your account or campaign and are sorted by order of importance, with urgent issues appearing at the top. Alerts help you improve the performance of your campaign and offer a recommended next step. If you need help, click on the "More Info" link to see the related Help topic(s). To collapse the Alerts box from view, click the "Hide" link in the top right corner of the Alerts box. The "Show" link expands to display all of your current Alerts.

What does average position mean?
Average position is the average rank your ad appeared in during a period of time. A given site in the ASL Network may have 1-3 positions, or ordinals, in which your ad might be displayed. The average position indicates which of these three positions your ad appeared in (on average) across our network in a given period of time.

What is a daily budget?
The daily budget is the maximum amount you want to spend on a Campaign in one calendar day. You are asked to pre-select the amount of your daily budget upon creating an ad or a campaign. Your ads will be displayed and will receive clicks until the total cost of those clicks reaches your daily budget.
Once your daily budget cap is reached, the display of your ads is suspended until the beginning of the following day (starting 12:00 AM PST). Depending on your ad traffic and other factors, you may not receive enough clicks to reach your daily budget. If not entirely used, the remainder of your daily budget does not carry over to the next day. You start with a new daily budget amount each day.

What is Contextual Targeting?
Contextual targeting enables you to display your ads across the Ask Sponsored Listings (ASL) network by matching the content of your ads and your keywords to the content of web pages and services of the ASL network partner and interests of users of such web pages and services.
Content of the publisher web page or services and/or historical user search and click actions are considered for targeting of your ads. By targeting ads to such elements, ASL delivers ads that are highly relevant to the users' interests.
Contextual targeting benefits:
- Expand your ad reach beyond search marketing distribution
- The ability to set and manage your bids separately for contextual ads
- Easily add contextual to your current search ads (contextual targeting is enabled by default, but you may disable it at any time)
-
What is the card ID number?
The card ID number is the 3-digit Credit Card Verification number on the back of a Visa, or Mastercard, or the 4-digit number on the front of some American Express cards.
As part of our efforts to provide secure transactions for our clients, this number is a required part of your billing information.
-
What is the destination URL?
The destination URL is also known as the tracking URL. It links your ad to the relevant destination page on your site. The destination URL, unlike the display URL, is hidden from the viewer.
By adding a tracking code or other parameters onto the end of the destination URL, you can track the performance of your ad. The purpose of this URL is to send visitors to relevant landing pages within your website that corresponds to your targeted keyword. Destination URLs are also sometimes used by customers to track conversions or sales.

What is the refill amount?
Upon creating an account, you will be asked to pre-select your refill amount. The refill amount must (at a minimum) be equal to three times the daily budgets for each of your campaigns.
You will be charged for your refill amount:
- Upon creating your account and activating your campaigns
- Each time your account balance falls below three times the total amount of your daily budget(s).
For example, if you have three campaigns, each with a daily budget of $50, your refill amount must be a minimum of $150. If you set your refill amount to $200, your credit card will be charged for $200 when your account balance drops below $150 (2 campaigns x $50 daily budgets). If you prefer to be charged less frequently, we suggest you increase your refill amount to approximately 20 times the sum of all of your campaigns' daily budgets. In that case, you would be charged approximately once a month. You can modify your refill amount as often as necessary.
Please note that we also offer the option to turn off the automatic refill on your account if you wish to manually manage your funds. Please contact client services through our online webform, or call 1 (877) 453-3837 and we'll gladly assist you.
If you have a managed account, you do not have to prepay the refill amount.

Why aren't my ads appearing on Ask.com?
If you have opened a new account or created an ad recently, we suggest waiting several hours in order to allow our servers to upload and serve your ad. If your ad is not appearing on Ask.com the following day or your ad was active in the past, please review the list of possible reasons below
- 1) Account Not Successfully Funded/No Remaining Balance
- If you have chosen to fund your account by credit card, please sign in to your account and click on the "Campaigns" tab and locate the "Remaining Balance" field. If it reads "$0.00", this means that your billing information was not accepted by our system or that your account has run out of funds. Please contact us if you are unable to successfully fund your account.
- 2) Ad Requires Editorial Review
- Your ads are subject to the Editorial Guidelines located here. In the event that your ads require manual approval by a member of our Editorial Team, there will be a message on the Campaign Detail page. If your ad is rejected, you will be notified via email. Simply modify the content of your ad and of the site that you originally submitted so that they conform to our Editorial Guidelines and then resubmit it.
- 3) Ad Appearing on ASL Network
- The ASL Network consists of 90+ syndication partners, across a multitude of search properties, portals and meta search sites that include (but is not limited to) Excite.com, iWon.com, CNET.com, Mamma.com and Lycos.com. If your ads are not appearing on Ask.com but are generating clicks, they are being distributed across the ASL Network putting your ad in front of millions of Internet users.
